Somewhere between North Finland and its border with Lapland, home to vast space, iridescent landscapes, and ice comes Arttu Snellman aka Lump. As a teenager in the late eighties Arttu was struck, like any budding techie confined by many months of cold and darkness, by the new electronic sounds coming out of the US and UK. Profound love for acid house and emerging bleep techno forced the acquisition of turntables, relocation to Helsinki, and a DJ career interrupted by mandatory Finnish military service. 5 days later he was discharged for 'mental reasons.'
Relieved, Arttu found himself chosen for a four year animation course in the southwest city of Turku. While in school during the mid nineties Arttu started to amass obscure synths and eventually built up a small studio. Ambient soundscapes and lo-fi grooves started to emerge. In 1998 he moved to London and became a freelance animator, never forgetting his music productions. His first record as Lump was released in early 2002 on Cologne's Sub Static label.
After 10 years of London, Arttu has now settled in beautiful Lisbon, Portugal where he is 100% dedicated producing and remixing music.
2009 was a busy year for Lump with 4 EPs and 3 remixes released on different labels. Looks like it's going to be even busier year in 2010 with two EPs already lined up for release on 'Contexterrior' and 'Amplified'.
Old hissy analogue gear is the foundation of Lump's sound - sound that is fat, fuzzy, warm and deep. Always soulful and a sprinkle of funk on top. Layers of sound are sculpted meticulously to fit or flow just right, revealing new facets at each listening pass. Many of these layers and sounds are mixed live free of precise sequencing and as such the music takes on a life of its own. Never taking himself too seriously, Lump confesses that for him music is all about fun, making music only when in a good mood. From playful to melancholy, focused to vague, Lump's music conveys pictures of timeless concepts from deep within, all from a warm perspective of pure positivity.
As a live act he presents a set which combines the forward drive, bounce and futuristic sound palette of contemporary house with the low bass, skank rhythms and scatter shot explosions of dub. Lump guarantees to take no prisoners and move your head and feet in equal measure.

Минувший 2009 год был очень продуктивный в творчестве Lumpa :он выпустил 4 Eps и сделал 3 ремикса на разных лейблах.И, похоже, в 2010 году он будет не менее востребован, так уже запланирован выход двух его Eps на “Contexterrior” и «Amplified “
Старое и шипящие оборудование есть основа неповторимого звучания Lumpa-немного неопределенного , плотного и глубокого звучания с нотками душевности и фанка. Пласты звуков структуированы таким образом, что по мере нарастания мелодии, нам открываются новые ее грани. Он часто соединяет звуки воедино , не следуя определенной последовательности, что позволяет его мелодиям жить своей собственной жизнью. Lump признается,что музыка для него является источником радости и,поэтому, делает он это только в хорошем настроении. Его музыка переносит нас в бесконечные глубины внутри нас и рассказывает о его понимании чистого позитивизма.
На своих выступлениях он представляет публике смешение таких стилей музыки,как хаус,даб,сканк и другие, в сплетении с футуристическими звуковыми вкроплениями.Lump гарантирует, что мы будем двигаться в одном ритме с его музыкой.
